On 15 April 2014 we have synchronized the production repositories.
Those who haven’t upgraded from the testing repositories, and depending on whether you’re a SolydX or SolydK user you will have between 500MB and 1GB of packages to download.
After the go-live, I’ll start building the new iso’s.
You might have a slow download if people upgrade at the same time. Try again at a later date or time.
If you are following our mirrors: they will follow later, and I will keep you posted on their progress.
If you encounter any problems, post your findings here: http://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3493
Below you find the Update Manager’s UP information page.
For users running BE/BO here is a slightly adapted version of the information page.
I recommend to carefully read it before you start upgrading:
Update Pack 2014.04.15
A whole new Update Manager
The Update Manager has been re-built from scratch making it better suited for SolydXK’s update processes.
Apt instead of Synaptic is the core of the application which will prevent discrepancies between terminal upgrades and upgrades with the Update Manager.
>> After the Update Manager has updated itself, you need to manually start the Update Manager (or logout/login), and re-enter your blacklisted packages in the preferences window if needed. <<
KDE has been updated to version 4.12.4
Kernel updated to version 3.13-1
- Firefox and Thunderbird
Firefox has been updated to version 28.0, and Thunderbird to version 24.4
Both come with these add-ons:
– Locale Switcher to switch installed language packs.
– Firefox comes with Adblock Plus.
– Thunderbird comes with the Lightning Calendar, and more.
For existing users you need to enable these add-ons (and languages) in the add-ons manager of Firefox and Thunderbird.
If you don’t like these add-ons, you can simply remove these packages: firefox-solydxk-adjustments, thunderbird-solydxk-adjustments
This will leave you with a pure Firefox and Thunderbird install for new users. For existing users you only have to disable these add-ons in the add-ons manager.
LibreOffice has been updated to version 4.1.5-2.
The SolydXK Plymouth theme has been changed, and the Plymouth Manager has been adapted accordingly.
Read this whether you update with the Update Manager, or terminal.
After the upgrade has finished, restarting, or shutting down your system will just log you out, and back in again. The second time will work.
Updating with the Update Manager
The Update Manager can be opened from the system tray by clicking on this icon: .
Most user choices are being done for you by the Update Manager. It uses the default selection within 5 seconds before continuing the upgrade.
Only the selection menus need to be done manually.
Select the device where you installed GRUB (usually /dev/sda). Use the arrow keys to move, and the space bar to select (an asterisk marks the selected choice). When done, hit “Enter” to continue.
Updating with the terminal
We recommend using the Update Manager to update your system, but if you prefer using the terminal, please read the below steps carefully.
Download and run the following script as su: http://packages.solydxk.com/umfiles/tst/pre-up-2014.04.15
This will install, and configure the new Firefox, Thunderbird, and several other packages in preparation of the upgrade. It also copies the included add-ons to existing users directories if they do not already exist.
Now you can run dist-upgrade.
- Configuration files
You might be asked to replace ‘/etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf’, and ‘/etc/bash.bashrc’. It is recommended to keep the currently installed file (default selected).
- Post upgrade
If you’re using Nvidia, you run the following command before reboot:sudo apt-get install –reinstall nvidia-kernel-dkms
