UP 2013.07.06 12:00 UTC

Just another day before the next Update Pack: 2013.07.06

On 6 July 2013 at 12:00 UTC we will synchronize the production repositories.

From that time until I give the green light: please don’t use the repositories to upgrade your system.

Those who haven’t upgraded from the testing repositories will have about 200MB of packages to download.

There will be no new iso’s this time.

You might have a slow download if people upgrade at the same time. Try again at a later date or time.
Now that the main site, and forum are running on a separate server, they should be available at all time.

If you encounter any problems, post your findings here: http://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=868

To prepare you for the upcoming UP, I’ve copied the Update Manager’s UP info page here, and I recommend you to carefully read it before you start upgrading tomorrow:

Update Pack 2013.07.06

These are the highlights.

  • Kernel
The kernel has been updated to version 3.9+42
  • Firefox
Firefox has been updated to version 22.0
  • Thunderbird
Thunderbird has been updated to version 17.0.7
  • Plymouth
Plymouth has been updated to version 0.8.8-10

Issues and workarounds

We recommend using the Update Manager to upgrade, but if you prefer using the terminal, please read the below workarounds carefully.

  • Plymouth
Before you do an “apt-get dist-upgrade”, you need to update plymouth:
    sudo apt-get install plymouth
  • Kernel upgrade
After the dist-upgrade finishes, and you’re using Nvidia, you run the following command before reboot:
    sudo apt-get install –reinstall nvidia-kernel-dkms

You also might need to reinstall ndiswrapper:

    sudo apt-get install –reinstall ndiswrapper-dkms
  • Logout screen
After the upgrade on SolydX, your logout screen will look garbled.
Do not worry: after reboot it will look like it did before.

Missing packages

  • xscreensaver
In SolydK, xscreensaver isn’t installed completely: xscreensaver is missing
This package will be installed automatically on SolydK when you’re using the Update Manager.
